Subject: Anybody want to ride San Francisco -> L.A.?
So Siggraph is in Los Angeles this year. This means I get a paid ticket from Berlin to Los Angeles and back in August. Looks like the perfect opportunity for some touring, like from San Francisco to Los Angeles. I have been riding from Seattle to SF and from SF to LA and many other places before, so I have no doubts that this would be the perfect way of spending two weeks of vacation.
The trouble is, my schedule is rather fixed. I'll be in SF on Saturday, August 12. Riding alone isn't a good idea in case of trouble, and who would watch the bicycle when I am in a supermarket to buy water? So I am looking for people who go the same way at about the same time. Maybe I am lucky... I thought about riding some 80..100 miles a day, at low speeds, like 18..20 mph, but I am flexible. I absolutely don't want to chase anyone nor be chased.
If I can't find anyone, I might just ride locally in the Bay Area. In that case I wouldn't need to bring my own bicycle. Is there a place where I could rent one? The only place I know that rents bicycles, a shop in SF on Haight St near Stanyan, doesn't quite meet my expectations...
